Privacy policy

Who we are

This website, yourfirsthomecalculator.co.uk, is an independent UK website run by the Your First Home Calculator team, with no connection to HM Government, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government or Homes England. We are responsible for the personal data described on this page (in legal terms, the “data controller”). The quickest way to reach us about anything on this page is hello@yourfirsthomecalculator.co.uk, and every data request sent there is answered.

What we collect and why

The calculators. The figures you type are worked out in your browser and are not sent to us. When you press “Copy a link to this result”, your figures are added to the page address so that whoever opens the link sees the same result; your household income is only added to the link when you press that button. If you reload, bookmark or share a page with figures in its address, our host, Cloudflare, receives that address in its standard security logs (see hosting logs below). We do not read or store your figures.

Email you send us. If you email us, we hold your address and message for as long as needed to reply and, for corrections, to record the change. Our mailboxes are provided by our email hosting provider, and email to our domain is routed through Cloudflare. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you and keeping the site accurate.

Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits, pages, countries, devices and page speed. It runs a small script that reads basic information from your browser, such as the page address, how fast it loaded and the type of device. It stores nothing on your device, uses no cookies and does not identify you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site. Cloudflare processes this data as our processor. The cookie policy explains how to switch it off.

Hosting logs. Our host, Cloudflare, records the IP address, browser type and pages requested (including any figures in a page address) for security and to keep the site running, and keeps those logs for a short period under its own retention rules (Cloudflare publishes them in its privacy policy). Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Who we share it with, and where it goes

We do not sell, rent or pass on your data to anyone. Our processors are Cloudflare (hosting, security, analytics and email routing) and our email hosting provider (mailboxes). Cloudflare is a United States company. Where data leaves the UK, the transfer relies on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or on the ICO’s International Data Transfer Addendum in the provider’s data processing agreement. What we do not do

We do not run a mailing list and there is no sign-up form on this site. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising networks. We do not profile you. We do not combine what you type into the calculators with anything else. If we ever start a mailing list, we will update this page before it goes live and ask for your consent when you sign up.

How long we keep it

Emails to us: up to two years, or longer where they record a correction. Analytics: aggregated data only, with no personal identifiers. Hosting logs: for the period in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to our processing of it, ask us to restrict it, and ask for the data you gave us in a portable form. Email hello@yourfirsthomecalculator.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have used your data, please tell us first at hello@yourfirsthomecalculator.co.uk. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you what we have done about it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and show the date at the bottom. Significant changes will be announced on the updates page.
