How we make money: nothing, yet

Your First Home Calculator makes no money. There are no adverts, no affiliate links, no referral fees, no sponsored content and no paid listings. The running costs, a few pounds a month, are paid by the team. The people behind the site work in new-build property marketing in their day jobs, which brings them into contact with housebuilders; that work is separate from this site, and the about page explains the link.

What might change, and how you will know

We may in future introduce some of the following. If we do, each one will be labelled where it appears, this page will be updated first, and nothing on this list will ever change a fact on a page or the result of a calculator.

• Listings of participating housebuilders and developments, where a developer pays to be listed or to receive enquiries. Listings would be marked as such and would not affect the order or content of our guides.
• Referrals to regulated mortgage advisers or conveyancing solicitors, where we receive a fee if you choose to be introduced. Any such arrangement will comply with the Financial Conduct Authority’s rules, will be disclosed before you click, and will never involve us recommending a specific product.
• Licensing of the calculator to housebuilders and brokers for use on their own websites.
• Sponsorship of an email newsletter, if we start one, clearly marked.

What we will not do

• Sell or pass on your email address or any personal data to anyone.
• Take payment from the government, a developer or a lender to change what we say.
• Charge you for information about a government scheme.
• Show adverts that require tracking cookies.

Why this page exists now

Google, regulators and readers rightly judge money sites by how open they are about money. Publishing this page while there is nothing to declare is the point: the day there is something to declare, it will be here.
